Case Study: TimkenSteel achieves tighter maintenance cost control and cross‑team collaboration with IBM Maximo Asset Management from IBM

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the TimkenSteel Case Study

Forging a closer relationship between maintenance and procurement

TimkenSteel, a leading manufacturer of high‑quality steel bars and seamless mechanical tubing, needed to keep production lines online while gaining better visibility into parts and equipment costs and improving collaboration between maintenance and procurement. To address this challenge, TimkenSteel worked with IBM and deployed IBM Maximo Asset Management to centralize procurement and maintenance workflows.

IBM implemented a single, configurable workflow in Maximo (using Workflow Designer) that automates approval routing, gives managers instant visibility of maintenance spend, and standardizes procurement across the company. The IBM solution improved collaboration between maintenance and procurement, delivered new insight into maintenance needs, increased cost control via automated approvals, and helped TimkenSteel substantially reduce overall maintenance costs while opening the door to future predictive‑analytics use.
