Finding quicker, more effective ways to connect bright minds

The University of Zurich, a leading research university with over 26,000 students, needed a more efficient and secure way for its large community of staff and students to collaborate. Their existing email system was heavily used but limited; they required a broader range of integrated communication tools to support academic success and reduce the security risks of using external services.

IBM, working with a business partner, implemented a collaboration hub based on IBM Connections, IBM Notes, and IBM Sametime. This provided an integrated platform with file sharing, wikis, forums, and online communities. The solution achieved high user uptake with 40,000 total users and 3,000 mobile devices, leading to richer collaboration and significantly enhanced data security by keeping information on internal systems.
