A IBM Case Study
Faurecia, a major automotive components manufacturer, faced a significant challenge in maintaining its global SAP ERP system, which was supported by IBM Power Systems and IBM DB2. Operating across 33 countries with almost no downtime windows, the company’s single global instance created high business risk; any planned maintenance could disrupt its lean, just-in-time operations and result in severe financial penalties from automotive customers.
To solve this, IBM Global Business Services implemented a solution to split the single SAP instance into three regional instances for EMEA, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. This new multi-instance architecture, managed by IBM, provided longer regional maintenance windows, minimized operational downtime, and confined any disruptions to smaller user groups. The project was completed without business disruption, reducing risk and creating a secure, flexible platform ready to support Faurecia's future global growth.
