A IBM Case Study
The Central Police Directorate of Lower Saxony faced the challenge of fighting crime more effectively by overcoming fragmented data stored across multiple systems. To gain a unified, near-real-time overview of criminal offenses and traffic accidents for better decision-making, the customer turned to vendor IBM and its IBM Cognos Business Intelligence solution.
The solution IBM implemented, named NIVADIS, centralized data into a warehouse and provided interactive analytical reports and geographic mapping of crime hotspots. This provided officers with faster insights, automated previously manual reporting, and enabled more accurately targeted police operations. The measurable impact includes 22,000 officers gaining immediate access to critical information, leading to instances where suspects were identified within minutes of a bulletin being issued.
