Equipping broadcasters with personalized AI technology to keep viewers safe

Cox Media Group Jacksonville TV, which operates WFOX-30 and WJAX-47, needed a faster way to deliver accurate, personalized weather updates across its mobile app, web, and social channels during fast-changing and severe weather events. Its existing push notifications were underperforming, and the team wanted a more shareable, branded digital workflow for viewers who expect timely local weather information.

IBM, through The Weather Company’s Max Engage solution, helped CMG Jacksonville TV publish geotargeted content directly to its mobile app and distribute it across platforms from a single interface, with scheduled posts, expiration dates, and interactive severe-weather coverage. The results were immediate: workflows became more efficient, engagement increased, and during a February 2020 tornado outbreak video views jumped from 13,000 to 27,000 in less than 24 hours and from 10,000 to over 40,000 for the week.
