Case Study: Optibus achieves real-time bus fleet optimization and 7-10% cost savings with IBM big data solutions

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Optibus Case Study

Enabling smarter public transport systems through real-time analytics of in-motion big data

Optibus, an intelligent optimization solutions provider for public transportation, sought to reinvent how bus services are delivered. Their challenge was to help bus companies move beyond inefficient, manual planning by developing intelligent tools for real-time operational scheduling and optimization. They partnered with IBM, utilizing IBM InfoSphere BigInsights and IBM InfoSphere Streams to build a data-driven solution.

The solution IBM provided was an algorithm-based scheduling optimization platform running on the IBM Bluemix and SoftLayer cloud. This platform analyzes real-time data like GPS, passenger count, and traffic to provide a 360-degree view of operations, enabling intelligent, immediate responses to changing conditions. As a result, Optibus helps clients save 7-10% in operational costs, reduce CO2 emissions, and improve fleet utilization with real-time tracking and rescheduling.
