ArcBest, a North American logistics company, needed a better way to identify and develop future leaders as many managers approached retirement. Working with IBM and Cornerstone OnDemand, the company used IBM Watson Talent Frameworks to define the skills, competencies, and values needed for leadership roles and to replace generic performance reviews with more role-specific guidance.

IBM helped ArcBest integrate Watson Talent Frameworks into its performance and succession management process, enabling targeted coaching, clearer career paths, and more consistent leadership development. The results included significant improvements in 11 of 15 employee survey questions in the pilot group versus a control group, stronger engagement, and an industry-leading retention rate, while also helping avoid future recruitment costs.
