Embracing integrated business processes to help onboard acquisitions seamlessly

OMV, the international oil and gas company, needed a more integrated way to run operations and onboard acquisitions as it pursued net-zero operations by 2050 or sooner. Its legacy SAP ERP environments were highly customized and fragmented across divisions, making financial reporting, process integration, and acquisition onboarding difficult. OMV worked with IBM Consulting and SAP S/4HANA to modernize its business processes.

IBM Consulting implemented a hybrid SAP S/4HANA transformation on SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud hosted on Microsoft Azure, using IBM Rapid Move for SAP S/4HANA for the Downstream business and a greenfield approach for Corporate. IBM helped OMV consolidate 170 company codes into one SAP S/4HANA instance, unify nine charts of accounts into one, and standardize workflows. The company went live on time and within budget, reduced IT maintenance spend, improved month-end closing and reporting speed, and created a digital core to support future acquisitions and growth.
