Elkjøp modernizes business intelligence for growth

Elkjøp Nordic, a major Nordic consumer electronics and appliance retailer, needed a more scalable way to deliver business intelligence as dashboard usage grew and its on-premises analytics environment became harder to maintain. The company wanted faster access to customer and operational data for users across the business, from store staff and analysts to senior management, and it had long used IBM Cognos Analytics on premises before planning a move to the cloud.

IBM helped Elkjøp Nordic migrate to IBM Cognos Analytics on the cloud, using a SaaS model integrated with Snowflake and existing data sources to create a single version of the truth. The new platform enabled real-time dashboards, self-service analytics, and flexible scaling with no downtime; IBM added extra capacity before Black Friday and removed it afterward without interruption. The shift supported record Black Friday sales, contributed to a 9% increase in total sales revenue in fiscal 2019–2020, and freed Elkjøp to spend less time on maintenance and more time partnering with the business.
