Ricoh Company, Ltd., through its Ricoh USA subsidiary, needed a way to help a multinational insurance customer shut down two European data centers and move IBM i workloads to the cloud while meeting strict data-retention requirements. Working with IBM, Ricoh used IBM Power Virtual Server and IBM Cloud to support the migration, leveraging the existing cloud infrastructure to avoid starting from scratch.

IBM implemented the hybrid cloud solution with Ricoh and FalconStor StorSafe VTL for virtual tape backup to IBM Cloud Object Storage. The workloads went into full production in September 2022, helping the customer cut annual data center housing and operating costs by up to 40%, reduce carbon footprint, and potentially shorten daily backup time by up to four hours.
