Ecogas, the regulated natural gas distributor serving 1.4 million customers across six provinces in Argentina, needed to rapidly shift from in-person to digital services when COVID‑19 lockdowns closed branches and dramatically increased online demand. To modernize its backend and scale transactions, Ecogas selected IBM together with SAP HANA 2.0—using IBM Power10 (with an IBM POWER9 proof of concept), IBM FlashSystem storage and IBM Power Systems Virtual Server—to enable end-to-end online and mobile customer journeys.
Working with IBM and implementation partners, Ecogas deployed SAP HANA 2.0 on an IBM Power E1080 with IBM FlashSystem 5200, IBM PowerVM virtualization and IBM Cloud‑based disaster recovery in just 60 days. The IBM-led solution boosted compute performance by 35%, reduced IT operational costs by 20%, moved about 80% of customers to digital channels, cut regulatory report time from 30 to 6 hours (an 80% reduction) and accelerated back‑office reporting by roughly 40%.
