A IBM Case Study
Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) wanted to transform from a corporate-focused lender into a more competitive digital bank, but its legacy point-to-point integrations and manual processes couldn’t support the speed, flexibility, and scalability needed for retail banking. Working with IBM and IBM Business Partner Sumerge, EBank aimed to build a banking-as-a-service platform to modernize integration, automate key workflows, and improve both corporate and retail services.
IBM helped EBank implement IBM Cloud Pak for Integration and IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation on Red Hat OpenShift, creating a containerized API integration layer and automating processes such as account opening and remittance flows. The results included outgoing interbank transfers improving from 4 minutes per transfer to 50 transfers per minute, and internet banking transfers speeding up by 80% from 10 minutes to 2 minutes. IBM’s solution also eliminated manual work on thousands of daily transactions and enabled EBank to complete an STP mandate more than a year ahead of alternative options.
