A IBM Case Study
First National Bank (FNB), a major South African financial institution, faced a business challenge as its fragmented, rules-based decision-making systems were too slow and inflexible to support its geographic expansion and meet new regulatory and consumer demands. To drive smarter and more agile operations, the bank turned to vendor IBM and its IBM Operational Decision Manager software to implement a centralized rules engine.
IBM implemented its Operational Decision Manager solution on FNB's IBM z Systems mainframe. This provided a single point of control for business rules, which drastically improved performance and agility. The solution delivered a 40x performance increase, dramatically reduced latency to enable support for online channels, and accelerated the bank's ability to adapt its rules to changing conditions, resulting in faster and more cost-effective decision-making.
