Computer Merchants, an Australia-based IT services and hardware provider, faced intense market disruption as commoditization, cloud, and new technologies eroded the value of traditional offerings. To stay competitive, the company worked with IBM and used IBM i on IBM Power Systems to modernize its business and create new revenue streams.
IBM helped Computer Merchants launch CM View and CM Care, tools for automated maintenance and customer asset management, enhanced with analytics, machine learning, and IBM Watson. The results included entry into new markets, 40 hours of work saved per month, CM View generating the equivalent of two full-time engineers’ billable work each day, and a projected first-year return of up to 160% of development cost.
