Case Study: Mohawk College achieves faster cyberattack detection with IBM QRadar SIEM

Detecting cyberattacks in a complex higher education landscape

Mohawk College, a large postsecondary institution in Hamilton, Ontario, faced the growing challenge of protecting a complex IT environment across multiple campuses and departments from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. To strengthen its detection capabilities, Mohawk worked with IBM Business Partner GlassHouse Systems to implement IBM Security QRadar SIEM, after finding that its existing defenses were strong but its ability to quickly detect and respond to breaches needed improvement.

IBM and GlassHouse Systems deployed QRadar across Mohawk’s campuses and data center, giving the college a centralized view of threats across on-premises and cloud environments. The solution accelerated threat detection, prioritized incidents by risk, and simplified investigations and log management, helping improve PCI DSS compliance and reduce manual troubleshooting. Mohawk reported a “layer of visibility” it did not have before, enabling faster response and more effective remediation.
