Blueprint Genetics, a clinical diagnostics company focused on inherited disorders, faced a critical bottleneck: sequencing could be scaled, but the labor‑intensive interpretation and reporting stage slowed delivery to patients. To accelerate turnaround and massively expand its test portfolio, Blueprint Genetics engaged IBM and adopted an IBM Hybrid Cloud approach using IBM BigInsights for Apache Hadoop, IBM BigInsights Text Analytics, IBM Watson Explorer, IBM Business Automation Workflow and SoftLayer infrastructure.

IBM implemented a hybrid‑cloud big‑data and workflow solution that automates literature mining, surfaces the most relevant research for analysts, and standardizes the reporting workflow. As a result, Blueprint Genetics cut average turnaround to 14 days (vs. a month or more for many competitors), expanded its offering 20x from 20 to 400 tests in seven months, and achieved up to a 50% rise in analyst productivity with projected threefold increases in processing capacity.
