Copenhagen Business School drives sustainability at Roskilde Festival using cloud data analytics

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) partnered with IBM to tackle the challenge of improving sustainability and operations at the massive Roskilde Festival. The challenge was to gain insights from the huge volume of real-time data generated by 130,000 attendees to optimize safety, catering, energy, water, and waste management in a more sustainable way.

IBM implemented a cloud-based big data lab using IBM Bluemix, dashDB, SoftLayer, SPSS Modeler, and Watson Analytics. This solution aggregated and analyzed diverse data sets, providing valuable insights into crowd movement, sales correlations, and consumer behavior. The results enabled smarter, data-driven planning for the festival, helping to minimize food waste, improve safety, and optimize resource utilization to enhance overall sustainability.
