Case Study: Cadence achieves faster, more scalable EDA compute with IBM Cloud

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Cadence Case Study

Complex processing and unprecedented degrees of precision

Cadence, a leader in computational software for chip design, faced growing demand for compute power as microchip development became more complex and time-sensitive. To support its EDA workloads and internal software development, Cadence worked with IBM using IBM Cloud and hybrid HPC capabilities to scale beyond on-premises data centers while meeting strict security and performance requirements.

IBM implemented a hybrid cloud solution for Cadence using IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers, Virtual Servers for VPC, Storage Scale, Aspera, Red Hat OpenShift, and workload management tools. The result was greater compute capacity, faster workload movement, and improved utilization, helping Cadence surpass its high-utilization goal and power its Cadence OnCloud platform; one customer even cut chip time to market by two months.
