Case Study: Ricoh Company, Ltd. achieves greater cloud efficiency and cost savings with IBM

Collaborating to deliver new hybrid cloud solutions

Ricoh Company, Ltd., through its Ricoh USA subsidiary, needed a way to help a multinational insurance customer shut down two European data centers and move its IBM i workloads to the cloud without disrupting operations. The challenge was to reduce costs, meet strict data-retention requirements, and preserve the customer’s existing IBM Power environment, so Ricoh worked with IBM and used IBM Power Virtual Server and IBM Cloud.

IBM helped Ricoh USA migrate the workloads into IBM Cloud with no refactoring, while FalconStor StorSafe VTL on IBM Cloud Object Storage handled long-term backup and compliance needs. The result was a fully production cloud environment in Europe, up to 40% potential annual savings in data center operating costs, and up to four hours less daily backup time, while also reducing the customer’s carbon footprint.
