A IBM Case Study
The City and County of Honolulu needed to modernize its aging legacy mainframe environment while preserving existing investments and adopting more current development practices. Working with IBM and IBM Business Partner Sirius, the city sought a more flexible IT approach to support municipal services across departments and roles.
IBM helped Honolulu transition to a service-oriented architecture, deploy a private cloud, break monolithic applications into microservices, and upgrade to IBM z13 servers with IBM z/OS, IBM z/VM, and IBM Integrated Facility for Linux. The result was the launch of Lōkahi, an enterprise platform for city business functions that saves development time, frees resources, and improves employee efficiency through a shared user interface across departments.
