Brand and reach expanded with innovative, interactive new mobile app

Vasaloppet, a nonprofit organizer of a historic cross-country ski race and other sporting events in Sweden, sought to expand its business impact and boost year-round tourism for the Dalarna region. The challenge was to increase the popularity of its summer races and off-season activities. To address this, they worked with IBM and leveraged the IBM MobileFirst Platform Foundation to develop an innovative mobile application.

The IBM solution was an interactive mobile app that provided athletes and spectators with features like performance tracking, historical results, and real-time race updates. The app was designed to significantly improve the participant experience and increase brand awareness. While quantitative results were not yet available at the time of publication, Vasaloppet expected the IBM solution to successfully increase tourism throughout the year and boost participation in its other events.
