A IBM Case Study

Preview of the NHS Digital Case Study

Boosting cybersecurity preparedness and resilience for the sake of patient care

NHS Digital, the NHS’s digital, data and technology partner, needed to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness and resilience to protect patient-facing services from growing cyberthreats. After incidents like WannaCry and the rising risk to clinical safety, NHS Digital turned to IBM and its Cybersecurity Services to help expand and improve its Data Security Centre (DSC) and Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC).

IBM implemented a multi-phase security operating model transformation, including maturity assessments, roadmap planning, SIEM and orchestration improvements, threat intelligence capabilities, and added security analysts. As a result, NHS Digital’s CSOC now monitors more than 1.2 million devices, blocks over two billion malicious emails each year, has stopped zero-day attacks, and can respond to incidents faster and more effectively, including resolving one trojan-related event in under 72 hours.
