Bernhardt Furniture Company, a leading global furniture manufacturer, needed a faster way to deliver application enhancements and a more flexible IT architecture to support new capabilities and rapid growth. Working with IBM — using the IBM Cloud platform and IBM jStart services — Bernhardt launched a Virtual Showroom mobile app but found its monolithic back end created performance bottlenecks and limited agility.
IBM replaced the monolithic back end with a microservices architecture, API infrastructure and hybrid cloud deployment, and introduced a DevOps approach using IBM Cloud DevOps Services (with WebSphere Liberty, Cloudant, Bluemix analytics and IBM Power Systems components). The new solution increased seller engagement by 20% at sales events and lifted sales by 20%, improved uptime and scalability, and transformed IT into a strategic partner for Bernhardt.
