An industry-first app for transforming customer experience at the gas pump

ExxonMobil needed a way to modernize the fuel-purchase experience and meet rising consumer demand for digital payments. It worked with IBM and IBM iX to design and launch Exxon Mobil Rewards+, a smartphone app for mobile payment at the pump that also supports the company’s loyalty program.

IBM built the solution with a user-centered design approach and migrated it to a scalable, secure IBM Cloud environment using container-based architecture, IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service, Db2 on Cloud, and related IBM services. The result was lower operating costs, millions of downloads, and faster, safer, more convenient transactions, with infrastructure that scales seamlessly as usage grows.
