A IBM Case Study
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) needed more computing power to analyze massive, highly regulated healthcare data and to support advanced computer science and electrical engineering coursework. It also faced challenges around unstructured records, HIPAA compliance, and the need to process encrypted data without slowing research, so it turned to IBM Cloud for Education.
IBM implemented IBM Cloud for Education and related IBM cloud services to give UMBC scalable, secure resources for research and teaching. The solution helped UMBC automate parts of HIPAA-related workflows, analyze encrypted data more efficiently, and publish two research papers; it also enabled cloud-based operating systems labs and virtual machines for students, improving access to high-performance tools and supporting underserved learners.
