A IBM Case Study
The Desert Research Institute (DRI), the environmental research arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education, faced challenges in managing and analyzing its exponentially growing, decentralized scientific data. This siloed approach increased IT costs and limited the potential use of its valuable research. DRI partnered with IBM to implement a powerful, centralized cloud computing platform to overcome these obstacles and support a state-wide initiative for economic diversification.
IBM deployed its PureSystems offerings, including the IBM PureApplication System and IBM PureData System for Transactions. This solution centralized DRI's data and provided a cloud-based platform, enabling scientists to analyze data up to 10 times faster, deploy applications in minutes instead of days, and make new discoveries. The IBM systems also serve as the foundation for a new Nevada Center of Excellence, helping to drive economic development and workforce training.
