Daiichi Sankyo Europe, part of Daiichi Sankyo, was struggling with slow report generation and declining analyst productivity as SAP Business Warehouse data volumes grew—hindering finance, controlling, planning and production teams. To speed analytics and reporting without large infrastructure cost increases, Daiichi Sankyo engaged IBM (leveraging IBM Hybrid Cloud and IBM Db2 technologies, including IBM Db2 with BLU Acceleration).
IBM upgraded the SAP BW environment to Db2 on SUSE Linux, migrated systems to faster servers, enabled BLU Acceleration and adaptive compression, and used IBM Spectrum Protect for backups. As a result, IBM helped Daiichi Sankyo achieve a 5.6x ROI within nine months; OLAP queries run 5.6x faster on average; data loads are 55% faster; SAPS increased 340%; data management runtimes are 8x faster; and database size fell by over 78%, keeping hosting fees nearly flat while freeing staff and improving production planning.
