Case Study: BRUNATA-METRONA achieves 99% faster billing and real-time energy insights with IBM Power Systems

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the BRUNATA-METRONA Case Study

Achieving sustainable energy consumption with detailed usage data and intelligent real estate operations

BRUNATA-METRONA, a Munich‑based provider of heating and water solutions, needed to combine and analyze data from millions of IoT sensors to enable intelligent home automation and reduce energy consumption and costs. To modernize its SAP landscape and handle the new data workload, BRUNATA‑METRONA engaged IBM to run SAP ERP and utilities workloads on IBM Power System E950 servers (POWER9) with IBM PowerVM, IBM AIX, IBM Db2 and IBM Storage.

IBM implemented the Power System E950 platform with PowerVM virtualization, Db2 databases and PowerHA for resilience, integrating continuous sensor feeds into BRUNATA‑METRONA’s SAP core. The result: billing collapsed from 15 days to 1 day (processing ~170,000 invoices/day, a ~99% improvement), >99.9% availability for business‑critical applications, sub‑250 ms response times, and the ability to ingest millions of sensors for real‑time analytics—supporting smart‑home automations that have demonstrated up to 30% heating energy savings and significantly higher customer satisfaction.
