Accelerating analysis with a right-sized generative AI (gen AI) solution

OCO Global, a technology-enabled advisory firm, needed a way to enrich and classify millions of company records without spending years on manual review. Its existing process for tagging industry sectors was too slow to scale, and even an API-based gen AI test still left the team facing roughly two years of processing time. IBM was brought in, along with Prolifics, to help solve the challenge using IBM watsonx.ai.

IBM and Prolifics implemented a right-sized gen AI solution on IBM watsonx.ai, selecting a smaller third-party model that balanced accuracy, speed, and cost. The new approach runs about 50 times faster than the earlier option, cutting processing for 250,000 records to about 4 hours instead of 2 days and reducing the overall timeline from years to a matter of weeks.
