A IBM Case Study
Samsung SDS America, a regional branch of Samsung SDS, was struggling to control rapidly rising AWS cloud costs and lacked enough visibility to produce showback and chargeback reports without manual effort. The company needed a better way to align cloud spending with business value, reduce waste, and make faster decisions before billing cycles closed. Samsung SDS America turned to IBM, using IBM Cloudability and later IBM Turbonomic to improve FinOps management and cloud optimization.
With IBM, Samsung SDS America gained a holistic view of cloud spend and usage across AWS accounts, identified idle and over-provisioned resources, and automated rightsizing and savings-plan purchases. The results included an 11% spend reduction across 86 AWS accounts in the first half of 2024 and an expected additional USD 400,000 in savings through automated rightsizing.
