A IBM Case Study
Mitchell Services, Australia’s diverse drilling company, needed a better way to identify gaps in critical risk management and understand whether incidents were being prevented effectively across its high-risk mining and resources operations. Working with IBM and using the CaNeTA method, supported by IBM® watsonx.ai® and IBM watsonx Orchestrate®, the company set out to improve safety performance and operational resilience.
IBM helped Mitchell Services analyze FY24/25 incident and near-miss data to map risk pathways, uncover hidden control weaknesses, and prioritize preventive actions. The result was a redesigned Critical Control Verification question set with 100% of questions focused on control effectiveness, a 4.7% increase in heavy vehicle inspection activity in the first three months, and stronger oversight of transportation, logistics, and maintenance risks.
