Tohoku Electric Power Network needed a better way to manage tree-felling work across its vast service area, where information had long been handled with paper maps, ledgers, and Excel. With the revenue cap system creating pressure to standardize processes and improve the accuracy of tree-logging plans, the company turned to IBM and its Salesforce and ArcGIS-based solution.
IBM helped implement a mobile-compatible tree logging management system that centrally manages equipment and tree information on maps, with agile support for rapid screen and function updates. The result was major streamlining: field staff can now capture tree locations on a smartphone, complete documentation and instructions with one tap, and use objective data to flag priority trees, improving budget use and enabling a more seamless, efficient workflow.
