Case Study: Lockheed Martin achieves unified data and AI innovation with IBM watsonx

A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Lockheed Martin Case Study

A new era of AI takes off for Lockheed Martin An aerospace defense company unifies its disparate data with the help of IBM

Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defense company, faced major data silos across 46 separate systems for analytics, business intelligence, and data management. Working with IBM and its watsonx.data platform, the company needed to unify disconnected data so it could support AI at scale and improve access for engineers and employees.

IBM helped Lockheed Martin replace those tools with a single integrated platform using watsonx.data, watsonx.data integration, watsonx.data intelligence, and related watsonx services. The result was a 50% reduction in data and AI tools, 216 automated data catalog definitions, and a secure AI Factory where 10,000 engineers can build and deploy AI solutions faster. Early gen AI pilots also improved response accuracy from 45.45% to 56.8%, and up to 66.0% with query optimization.
