A IBM Case Study

Preview of the STIHL Group Case Study

STIHL Group reinforces its SAP applications with SVA and IBM

STIHL Group, a global manufacturer of outdoor power tools, needed to modernize and centralize its fragmented SAP landscape to support 24/7 operations, improve scalability, and increase efficiency across its worldwide business. Working with IBM and partner SVA, the company aimed to consolidate critical applications and infrastructure for manufacturing, finance, and digital services.

IBM helped STIHL Group implement a highly scalable SAP HANA solution on IBM Power E1080 servers, along with IBM Storage FlashSystem 7300 and IBM SAN Volume Controller. The result was 6 PB of data storage with 50% fewer storage systems, a 7 TB mission-critical SAP HANA database, improved performance and resilience, and simpler management; STIHL also reported no unplanned downtime from hardware issues across three system generations.
