A IBM Case Study
stc group, a leading digital enabler and major telecom operator in Saudi Arabia, needed to modernize its cloud environment to support fast-growing digital services. To build a more scalable, efficient, and cost-effective foundation, stc partnered with IBM Consulting on a hybrid cloud transformation that would go beyond a simple lift-and-shift migration and improve governance, security, and agility.
IBM designed and helped implement a hybrid cloud target architecture built on platform engineering, along with application modernization, cost optimization, and disaster recovery improvements. The work delivered measurable impact, including an expected 30% CapEx reduction, 30%–35% lower container costs, nearly doubled open-source database adoption, and provisioning times cut by half through automation. IBM also helped stc achieve multicloud connectivity across three hyperscalers, strengthen business continuity, and modernize hundreds of applications.
