Preview of the Belgian Ministry of Finance Case Study

Transforming tax processing for reliability and performance Belgian Ministry of Finance boosts the consistency, functionality and efficiency of its online tax submission system with help from IBM

The Belgian Ministry of Finance, responsible for Belgium’s tax and customs operations, was struggling with frequent outages and database unavailability in its critical tax-on-web service. These issues affected the timely submission of tax returns and increased costs, making the ministry’s need for a highly available and high-performance platform urgent. IBM helped modernize the environment using IBM LinuxONE and Db2.

IBM implemented a two-stage infrastructure transformation, first with IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper II and later with IBM LinuxONE Emperor 4, IBM Db2, and IBM FlashSystem storage, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The new platform delivered major gains, including consistent 400,000 IOPS, database response-time improvements of 250% to 800% across 28 applications, and batch processing times for LOADs and ETL reduced by a factor of 3.
