A IBM Case Study
Smart Light, a Tokyo-based systems integrator for lighting, air conditioning, and other building controls, needed a better way to coordinate voice control and generative AI across diverse facilities protocols. Conventional smart-speaker dialogue flows were too rigid for different room conditions, so Smart Light turned to IBM watsonx.ai and IBM Cloud to build a more flexible IoT voice-control workflow.
IBM helped Smart Light create a prototype that translated spoken commands into facility actions using watsonx.ai for context interpretation and IBM Cloud Code Engine with Node-RED and MQTT for protocol conversion. The solution controlled devices such as air conditioning, lighting, and curtains, and the test-room prototype was built in about two weeks. By running repeated trials in the cloud, Smart Light cut prompt-testing time from about one week to about three days, improving efficiency by about 50%.
