A IBM Case Study

Preview of the Lufthansa Case Study

Aerodynamic flight operations follow a digital transformation

Lufthansa Group, a global aviation leader, was struggling with fragmented ground operations apps and an outdated, costly communication platform that created inefficiencies, coordination issues, and rising licensing expenses. The company needed a unified, web-based solution to improve communication, reduce costs, and support airport and airline teams across devices. IBM Consulting partnered with Lufthansa to address this challenge through application modernization and cloud expertise.

IBM Consulting helped Lufthansa Group consolidate multiple tools into Turnaround Companion (TAC), a single cloud-based platform built with IBM iX, IBM Garage, and IBM Application Modernization on Microsoft Azure. The new solution improved real-time tracking and communication, reduced delays, saved six-digit annual licensing costs, and enabled better customer satisfaction. Since launch, Lufthansa has integrated three major features, cut release downtime from about 45 minutes to just a few minutes, and improved onboarding for other airlines through configuration.
