Preview of the The National Organization for Social Insurance Case Study

Modernizing with IBM Z and watsonx Code Assistant for Z NOSI transforms core applications, upgrades to z16 and enhances efficiency without disruption

The National Organization for Social Insurance (NOSI), Egypt needed to modernize its core applications and scale its mainframe environment without risking data integrity or business disruption. Working with IBM, and specifically IBM watsonx Code Assistant for Z, NOSI faced the challenge of undocumented, complex COBOL applications and the need to reduce dependence on external modernization resources.

IBM helped NOSI run a pilot that used watsonx Code Assistant for Z to automatically document applications, visualize code flows, and analyze modernization options. As a result, NOSI modernized on IBM Z instead of migrating off-platform, upgraded to IBM z16, and expanded storage with IBM Storage DS8000. The impact included up to a 94% reduction in time to analyze superfluous COBOL code and up to a 79% reduction in time to understand complex applications, with code analysis dropping from 8 hours to 30 minutes and application understanding from 24 hours to 5 hours.
