EY worked with IBM’s tax department, which faced major challenges with inaccessible, incomplete data and time-consuming manual processes for managing global tax compliance across 170 countries. The effort was supported by IBM watsonx, especially IBM watsonx.ai and IBM watsonx.data, to help streamline data management and automate compliance.

IBM and EY implemented an AI-powered solution including an intelligent tax data lake and detect-and-correct workflows for business documents and withholding tax determinations. The results include first-pass invoice validation accuracy above 95%, three use cases on track to save tens of thousands of hours annually, and freed-up staff time for more strategic work; IBM says the collaboration is improving efficiency and enabling measurable cost savings.
