Transforming user experience with gen AI Nelen & Schuurmans streamlines software accessibility with IBM watsonx

Nelen & Schuurmans, a Dutch consulting and IT services company focused on water management, needed a way to make its Rana Water Intelligence software easier for non-technical users to navigate. To tackle the complexity of hydrodynamic simulation tools and help scale knowledge across its organization, the company worked with IBM and the IBM watsonx portfolio to explore a generative AI assistant.

IBM, through IBM Ecosystem Engineering, helped Nelen & Schuurmans build a pilot assistant using IBM watsonx.ai and IBM watsonx.data. The solution indexed documentation, enabled semantic search, and generated API code snippets, improving guidance in both the UI and programmatically. The pilot exceeded free-user hosting capacity by 265% and delivered an estimated 2,132% ROI on paid code-generation prompt packs, while also improving user experience and internal gen AI expertise.
