OPENPediatrics a social platform for medical training can improve pediatric care worldwide

Boston Children's Hospital faced a global challenge in pediatric critical care education, where the traditional apprenticeship model was failing. Expertise was bottlenecked within institutions, creating significant disparities in medical knowledge, particularly in regions with high infant mortality rates that lacked training resources. They partnered with IBM Security and its IBM Security Access Manager Reverse Proxy, among other IBM software and services, to develop a solution.

IBM implemented OPENPediatrics, a cloud-based social learning platform. This solution delivered training videos, interactive simulations, and a global community for knowledge sharing to healthcare workers worldwide. The results were significant, with over 1,000 users across 74 countries reporting improved clinical skills and better patient care, including a reduction in infection rates, demonstrating the platform's profound impact on pediatric healthcare.
