Case Study: Vivy, a German digital health app, reduces MTTR by 2/3 and preserves patient data privacy with IBM Instana

A IBM Instana Case Study

Preview of the Vivy Case Study

Vivy gives anywhere, anytime access to health information using IBM Instana Observability

Vivy, a German healthcare technology company offering a secure virtual health assistant for iOS and Android (serving ~120,000 users on an AWS EC2-based, microservices architecture of 9 hosts and ~40 containers), was struggling with invisible bottlenecks, slow services caused by frequent database calls, and no effective APM—threatening the always-on experience users expect. To stabilize and optimize rapid deployments and complex dependencies, Vivy turned to IBM Instana.

IBM Instana automatically discovered services, traced requests end-to-end, mapped dependencies, and delivered Automatic Root Cause analysis, Application Perspectives and a Grafana plugin while allowing Vivy to mask sensitive data for GDPR compliance. The result: full visibility into requests and service health, faster incident investigation, and a 2/3 reduction in MTTR (issues that once took up to three days to diagnose are now resolved in a third of the time), plus improved detection of spikes and potential attacks.
