North York General Hospital, a Toronto-area community academic hospital, needed a more flexible way to analyze quality-based procedures, emergency department performance, and other care metrics. After years of using IBM Cognos Analytics for reporting, the hospital wanted dynamic, real-time insight into relationships between variables and the ability to support data-driven decisions more effectively, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic created new operational pressures.

IBM DataStage helped North York General Hospital build a stronger analytics foundation by moving data from more than 15 source systems into its data environment in real time, alongside IBM Cognos Analytics and IBM SPSS Modeler. This enabled the hospital to replace more than 100 static reports with interactive dashboards, launch a COVID-19 portal in under two weeks, improve ED efficiency, and generate an additional CAD 3 million in annual government funding through better performance and staffing decisions.
