Standard Bank Group’s Spirit of Resilience Drives Growth in Challenging Times

Standard Bank Group faced the challenge of managing and governing a massive, distributed data estate to ensure business continuity and operational resilience across Africa. To modernize data governance and move those capabilities to the cloud, Standard Bank partnered with IBM Cloud Pak for Data and engaged IBM’s DataOps methodology, IBM Garage and IBM Data and AI Expert Lab Services.

Using IBM Cloud Pak for Data together with IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog and the IBM-led methodologies, the bank built a single, governed source of truth, standardized reference data and improved data quality and integration. The solution now covers more than 500 databases, 2,000 schemas, 250,000 tables and 8,000,000 columns of technical metadata, and standardizes over 100,000 reference data elements across 16 countries and 62 systems—strengthening governance, boosting business resiliency and earning industry recognition from the Data Governance Professionals Organization.
