From Print to Digital Exploring JSH-Online’s Massive Online Content Migration

JSH-Online, an initiative of The Christian Science Publishing Society, set out to combine three long-running periodicals (the Journal, Sentinel and Herald) and digitize 130+ years of content — roughly 275,000 articles dating back to 1883 (about 2.7 billion characters) — into a single, searchable subscription site. The project required near-perfect text accuracy, robust search, subscription and circulation management, sharing capabilities, commenting, and a mobile-ready experience.

JSH-Online selected eZ Publish and development partner Blend Interactive to build a scalable CMS, refine world-class search, implement a pay wall with token-based sharing, add commenting and audio for new articles, and roll out a responsive mobile redesign. The result is a stable, unified platform that makes century-spanning content easily searchable and shareable, has driven higher time-on-page and growing mobile usage, and supports a successful subscription model.
