West Virginia University Hospitals Simplifies Patient Privacy Auditing with Iatric Systems Security Audit Manager

West Virginia University Hospitals, part of West Virginia United Health System, needed a cost-effective way to comply with HIPAA and HITECH privacy auditing requirements across fragmented clinical systems. With patient data spread across multiple applications and thousands of daily access events, the hospital struggled to monitor records proactively. Iatric Systems’ Security Audit Manager (SAM) was selected to help centralize and simplify auditing.

Iatric Systems implemented Security Audit Manager to pull audit trails from the hospital information system, document management, lab, and other clinical applications, automatically reviewing PHI access 24/7 and flagging potential breaches. The result was a much more complete audit picture, easier reporting, and better proactive detection of privacy issues—at about half the cost of a competing product, while helping West Virginia United Health System expand auditing to more applications over time.
