A i-doit Case Study
The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics faced a challenge in managing the complex and growing inventory of its ASDEX Upgrade fusion research facility. The static nature of their previous Excel-based system made it difficult to efficiently document the life cycle, dependencies, and changes of thousands of devices and systems. To solve this, they chose the vendor i-doit and implemented its CMDB (Configuration Management Database) solution.
i-doit provided a highly flexible and scalable on-premise database that enabled the institute to map its unique infrastructure, including diagnostic units, sensors, and cabling. The solution improved documentation, clarified responsibilities for hundreds of previously unassigned objects, and provided a centralized overview of all systems. The successful rollout led i-doit to be expanded beyond its initial scope to manage transformers and irradiated components, contributing to greater transparency and supporting radiation protection compliance.
