Shipyard boosts productivity and quality with Hypertherm

Bollinger Shipyards, a major designer and builder of ships and vessels, faced challenges with poor plasma cut quality from their initial system, which required extensive secondary operations and delayed schedules. They also encountered quality and scheduling issues from outsourcing the production of water-tight doors. To address these problems, they turned to vendor Hypertherm.

The solution involved implementing Hypertherm's HyPerformance HPR260 plasma system and ProNest software, which dramatically improved cut quality and speed, eliminating grinding and rework. Additionally, a waterjet system with a Hypertherm pump brought door manufacturing back in-house, creating a new revenue stream. Hypertherm's technology provided Bollinger with precise cuts, minimal waste, and an estimated ROI on the waterjet of under two years, significantly boosting efficiency and productivity.
