A Hyperquake Case Study
The Rubin Museum of Art wanted to reinvent the traditional Tibetan prayer wheel as a large-scale, transformational lobby installation to kick off their "Year of Power." Their challenge was to update this ancient, intimate tool for a contemporary audience and allow visitors to actively participate in the subject of their new exhibition, The Power of Intention. They partnered with the experience design agency Hyperquake to bring this vision to life.
Hyperquake designed and built a large interactive installation called the Wheel of Intentions. This nearly 3.5-foot diameter wheel, combined with projection and a physical keyboard, allowed users to input their intentions. The solution included an LED wheel for users to turn and a particle field that displayed the text of their intention on the museum's five-story spiral atrium staircase. The installation was also extended online, allowing virtual visitors to participate. Hyperquake's work transformed the museum's lobby into a shared, public experience that made the subject of the exhibition tangible.
